I had almost forgotten about this little gem! The Sand City was my first book I ever fully illustrated, but it wasn't printed until over ten years after I painted the illustrations, so when Jill Foxhall contacted me to ask for my photo and a quick bio for the back cover I felt like I had solved a cold case!!!
At the time I painted these illustrations, I was working at the Danish Flower Art Complex In Highfields, Queensland. I was surrounded by gorgeous, folksy, artsy bricabrac, beautiful gardens, and the owner's grandkids used to come and play in the grounds. So Big thank you to Martha Muller and her pretty granddaughter (who was my very professional model). I actually got to play in the sandpit for this one- life's good! The Sand City is the perfect picture book for children of early primary age.
