When I first read this story I immediately connected to it. Actually everyone who reads it does. It's about facing fears and stepping out- not waiting until you feel brave.
The whole message of the book is that being brave isn't about not being fear... it's being scared but stepping up and facing your fear monster!
Megan Higginson and I worked on this one side by side, and boy, what a process it all was! We reedited and resketched and repaged and rethumbed and rewrote and rearranged and resketched and repaged and...
(you get the drift).
Now it's out there inspiring lots of little Raymunds to face up to their fear monsters!

It seems that terrified kiddies aren't the only ones inspired by Raymund and the Fear Monster. Check out what some grown-ups have to say:

Raymund and the Fear Monster is a brilliant resource for teaching children resilience and self-moderating strategies. It's also uniquely set in a (authentically depicted) south east Asian cultural setting in the Philippines. To illustrate this book, I fastidiously researched to get accurate depictions of the Philippine rainforests and rural village life.
